Auto Dimensioning
Dimension whole views by category — walls, grids, casework and more — in one run, using your dimension styles.
When to use it
Plans and elevations that need consistent, standards-driven dimensions across many views: wall strings, grid dimensions, opening locations.
Add the task
Open the task queue and add Dimension Views by Category.
Choose views and categories
Select the views to dimension (or use active-view mode to run on the view you have open) and the categories to pick up — e.g. walls and grids for a floor plan set.
Configure dimension options
- Dimension style — pick the dimension type used for every string.
- Wall options — choose what a wall string references: faces, centerlines, and whether openings and intersecting walls are included.
- Offsets — set the distance of each dimension string from the geometry.
Run and review
Run the queue and open a dimensioned view. Strings are placed per your offsets and reference rules. Delete or adjust any single dimension without breaking the others.
Tips
- Test the reference options on one view first — face vs. centerline changes every value in the string.
- Different rules per category? Add the task twice with different settings and view sets.
